Passing Sports Bill won’t solve the sports funding problem – Asiamah

MP for Atwima Mponua and ranking member of the Parliamentary Select Committee for Sports Isaac Kwame Asiamah has said the newly-passed sports will not solve the biggest problem in Ghana sports – funding.

Ghana’s Parliament passed the Sports Bill which seeks to develop the game after long years of wait.

The Bill that will be replacing the SMC Decree 54 of 1976 will among other things manage, promote and develop the various aspects of sports in the country.

Inputs were solicited from various stakeholders for a wider contribution on how to get all standards of practices conform to international practices.

With many looking forward to the Bill in addressing the numerous challenges facing the countries sports, MP for Atwima Mponua, Honourable Isaac Kwame Asiamah who is a ranking member of the Parliamentary Select Committee for Sports is not hopeful the Bill will address all the challenges.

“It is not about passing the bill but what the bill seeks to address. For me this bill will not address the problems and challenges facing sports. The major challenge is how to get funding for sports and how to ensure that we invest more in sports and the bill will not do that, which is a worry for me,” he stated.

President John Dramani Mahama is expected in the coming days to assent it into law.
