Asante Kotoko have opted to dispense with the services of experienced midfielder Michael Akuffo.
The defensive midfielder joined the porcupine warriors in December 2010 and enjoyed a successful debut season where the side won the Ghana Premier League title under coach Maxwell Konadu, Akuffo also helped the side to keep the title for three straight seasons.
The 30-year-old pushed for a loan spell away from the club last season following an offer from Lebanese side Al Ansar. He joined the Lebanese giants in August 2015 but his stay was short-lived by a training grounds injury to his knee in January this year.
After going through rehabilitation, Akuffo feels fit and raring to get back to his old self and joined his teammates on the first day of pre-season training for the 2016/17 season.
However, reliably information Footy-Ghana gathers, indicates that the former Feyenoord Academy (now WAFA SC) graduate has been informed by management of the need to look elsewhere.
“Yes, Akuffo has been told about the need to look elsewhere but there are some commitments that have to be made so he can leave the club,” a club source confirmed to Footy-Ghana.
The source added: “There are some arrears that have to be cleared regarding his salary – for about two months as well as a severance package for the cancellation of the remainder of his contract.”
