Coach of Ghana’s U-17 team, Augustine Evans Adotey says his team’s performance at the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup might be affected after some of his players were affected by the MRI.
The Black Maidens are currently in Jordan preparing for the tournament which will begin on Friday September 30 through to October 21 2016.
According to him, eight of his players were affected, leading to the addition of new players – a situation he fears might affect the performance of his team.
He is however hopeful his girls can excel.
“We are fully prepared except that the time was too short and the problem I encountered was FIFA ruling out 8 of my girls.
“You know talking of this age limit that FIFA came up with, that has affected 8 of my girls so I had to inject few players into certain positions which I’m trying to blend them with the old ones. Currently, we are not up to the standard required but trust the girls, we will do our best for Ghana.”
The team is billed for a friendly with their Cameroonian counterparts on Friday as both teams continue with preparations for the competition in Jordan.
Coach Adotey who is making a second appearance at the World Cup has set a target for himself.
“It is all about getting yourself ready for the tournament. It is too early to predict as I am speaking now but my first target is to ensure that we stay away from defeat against Japan – a win is okay for me or a draw is okay for me but at the tail end, I want to get to the second round. That is my first target.”
This will be the fifth time Ghana is competing in the U-17 female World Cup. The Black Maidens and are the only African side to have reached the semi-finals. Ghana won bronze in 2012.
