Ghana wins bid to host 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has awarded the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations hosting right to Ghana after an executive committee meeting.

Ghana won the bid after being the only country to submit a request and this will be the first time the country will be staging such an event for women’s football.

It will also be ten years since Ghana hosted CAN 2008 and an opportunity for the Black Queens to right the ‘host and win’ tag that couldn’t materialize then for their male counterparts.

Ghana who are ranked 2nd in Africa in women’s football have competed in 11 out of  the 12 competitions held on the continent and only missed out in the 2012 edition at Equatorial Guinea.

This year’s event will be held in Cameroon while the 2018 tournament will be used as qualification to the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2019.
