GPL: Inter Allies battle back to deny Kotoko top spot

Asante Kotoko missed the chance to go top of the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League log ahead of Sunday’s match day 18 games after drawing 1-1 away at Inter Allies.

Bennett Ofori shot the porcupine warriors in the lead after 12 minutes. The lanky attacker was on hand to pounce on a loose ball to net the opener after goalkeeper Osei Kwame failed to parry a shot from Frank Sarfo-Gyamfi to safety.

But the hosts fought back. Their reward came in the 51st minute when returning winger Frederick Opoku Yamoah produced a stunning long-range strike from about 30 yards which went past Kotoko goalkeeper Ernest Sowah.

Kotoko mounted some late pressure on their hosts at the Tema Stadium but failed to score further as referee Kenny Padi whistled to end the result 1-1.

Inter Allies’ Frederick Opoku Yamoah was adjudged man-of-the-match.

Kotoko are now on same points, 31, with leaders Wa All Stars who host defending champions AshantiGold at the Malik Jabir Stadium on Sunday.
