FIFA orders Zamalek to pay Ghana’s Karim Alhassan $1.25m compensation

Ghana defender Karim Alhassan is to be $1.25 million richer, according to a FIFA ruling.

The verdict comes in the wake of the former Hearts of Oak captain’s complaint filed at the world football governing body against the Egyptian giants for unilaterally terminating his contract without paying up his sign-on fees.

Alhassan joined the Whites under veteran coach Hassan Shehata in August 2011 in a free agent move but was released the following summer (May 2012) after spending his entire debut season warming the bench.

Karim Alhassan signed a five-year deal worth $1.3 million.

Egyptian portal Ahram published Monday that according to a letter sent by the world football governing body to Zamalek, the player is entitled to the entire amount stipulated in his contract after the unilateral termination of his five-year deal.

This is the second time Zamalek have been ordered to pay up sums in relation to the deal with the centre-back. In February 2014, the club was sanctioned to pay Hearts of Oak $80,000 as sponsorship rights over the free signing of Karim Alhassan.

Karim Alhassan, now 25, features for Sudanese side Al-Merreikh.
