Thomas Partey thrilled with Black Stars chance

Atletico Madrid’s midfielder Thomas Partey is buzzing about the opportunity to represent Ghana at the senior level.

Partey who featured in his club’s Champions League finals defeat to rivals Real Madrid last weekend is currently at the national camp after he was handed a maiden call-up to the Black Stars team for their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mauritius on June 5.

“I’m very happy to be here. I’m trying to learn from those who have been here and would do my best to be able to fit into the team.

“I did what I could do and you know it’s a dream for every player playing outside to come and play with the national team,” Partey said after training with the team at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The 22-year-old believes his chances of being handed a debut by Coach Avram Grant against the Les Dodoos on Sunday will be down to his hardwork in training.

“I’m okay with the team and I know we have a good team and it’s about hard work and so when I’m working hard and the Coach sees that I can do what he wants, I think I will be very happy with that.”
