Tanko tips All Stars for GPL title

Former Ghana International, Ibrahim Tanko is convinced current league leaders Wa All Stars can go all the way to win their first league trophy in the history of the club.

All Stars top the league table with 28 points after first round of the league, surprising many with their fine and excellent football in the first half of the season.

The Northern Blues is among clubs such as Aduana and Asante Kotoko with the most wins (8) both home and away, and again unbeaten at home throughout the first round of the league.

Such fine form has kept the Wa-based club in the driving seat to attain such an unprecedented feat, earning praises from all rounds of spheres in the football circle.

The ex-Cameroon assistant manager says All Stars stands in a pole position to be crowned champions at the end of the league base on his assessment.

“I tipped Kotoko to win the league but for now, I see it otherwise – but in football, we all know everything is possible,” Tanko told Angel FM.

“The team which has impressed me a lot is Wa All Stars because I watched 2-3 of their matches in the first round.

“If nothing changes, All Stars will win the league. With Kotoko and Hearts, they have their problems; especially with Kotoko at the beginning of the season. But they managed to catch up with pace and is doing well at the moment. We also saw how well Hearts played at the beginning. Coupled with these, the second round of the league will very interesting and entertaining.”

Tanko, 38, said his door is widely open for clubs seeking to engage his services.

“If I’m approached by any team, I will have to first of all take a look at their project and if convinced, I will consider it. At the same time I am also ready to consider offers from abroad,” Tanko said.

Ibrahim Tanko joined Borussia Dortmund from Kumasi-based King Faisal Babes in the German Bundesliga. He played for them from 1994 to 2000 and won the UEFA Champions League trophy in the 1996/97 season.
