Kotoko, Liberty march on to 2016 MTN FA Cup quarters

Premier League duo Asante Kotoko and Liberty Professionals became the latest clubs to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2016 MTN FA Cup on Saturday.

Both sides travelled to snatch victories from their opponents from the lower tier division.

Kotoko had to come from a goal down to force their tie with Division Two side Storm Academy at the Nkawkaw Park.

Storm took a first half lead via a Twumasi Frimpong effort before the Porcupine Warriors equalized through Bennett Ofori. Kotoko then went ahead to win the resulting penalty shootouts 5-3.

Liberty Professionals travelled to gun down giant killers FC Samartex 1-0 at Samreboi. Striker Bernard Arthur scored in the 49th minute to halt the jolly ride enjoyed by their hosts in this year’s MTN FA Cup tournament.

Four remaining Round of 16 games are scheduled to be cleared on Sunday.

The draw for the quarterfinals of the 2016 MTN FA Cup is expected to take place later this month.
