GPL Wrap: Aduana, Hearts share spoils in top-of-the-table clash

Hearts of Oak kept their unbeaten run on the road after forcing a 1-1 result in a top-of-the-table clash away to Aduana Stars on Sunday.

The Phobians fell on striker Cosmos Dauda to draw level in the 66th minute after going down 0-1 at half time. Aduana took the lead through centre back Emmanuel Akuoko after taking a slight header of a free kick by Godfred Saka which beat goalkeeper Akurugu in post for Hearts. Sharing the spoils, Hearts of Oak remain top with 25 points while Aduana keep 2nd place with 23 points.

Asante Kotoko kept their surge up the ladder with a 1-0 victory over 10-man Inter Allies at the Baba Yara Stadium. The Porcupine Warriors had to survive without top forward Obed Owusu midway through the first half after sustaining an injury. Inter Allies striker Sulley Mohammed was shown the exit after picking two yellow cards. He picked the 2nd while being substituted, forcing coach Jimmy Corbblah to miss the chance of tweaking his tactics. Minutes later, Kotoko were awarded a penalty following a push on Elvis Amoh who had come on for the injured Obed Owusu. Kotoko captain Amos Frimpong stepped up and converted the kick on the hour mark which handed their sixth win in seven games under interim coach Michael Osei. Kotoko now tie Aduana on 23 points but at third position.

After going two goals down in the opening nine minutes, Medeama SC put up a  spirited comeback to draw 2-2 away at Dreams FC. The hosts took the early oedema through Lawson Bekui and Aaron Amoah before Kwasi Donsu and Bismark Oppong pegged back to salvage a point from the Dawu Theatre of Dreams.

WAFA SC returned to winning ways at home as they pipped Techiman City. Emmanuel Boateng scored the only goal of the game at the Sogakope Academy grounds.

Goals from striking duo Eric Bekoe and Samuel Afful saw Sekondi Hasaacas record a sweet come from behind win over Ebusua Dwarfs in the “Fante Derby” on Sunday. Justice Asabere Mensah  scored the opener at the Essipong Stadium.

Champions AshantiGold continued their frustrating run with yet another drawn game at the Len Clay Stadium – their seventh in 13 league games. Wa All Stars walked home with a point after fighting out a 0-0 scoreline.

The Liberty Professionals encounter ter with New Edubiase at the he Carl Reindorf Park was rained off due to a heavy downpour. The game has been moved to Monday.

On Saturday, an Abedi Karim goal two minutes into second half handed Berekum Chelsea all the bragging rights in their “Bon derby” against Bechem United.
