GPL Preview: AshantiGold vs WAFA SC

Struggling champions AshantiGold open match day 15 of the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League with a home fixture against Academy side WAFA SC on Saturday.

The Miners have lost their magic this campaign after winning the league trophy last season with such aplomb and wonderful performances.

One key factor that could turn the tide in favour of the visiting team, WAFA, is the Obuasi Len Clay Park being good breeding grounds of late for teams who visit the stadium. This season, teams like Aduana, Dreams and Hearts of Oak have all picked at least a point from Obuasi, a ground that was seen a fortress has now turned into an easy passage for away teams.

Emmanuel Osei Carlos won’t be available for selection as reports revealed that he has personally agreed a three-year deal with the Porcupine Warriors.

The Academy boys have played with Ashgold on two occasions and have lost all of them – one zero defeat in both rounds.

As the host are struggling to keep up with form and bouncing back with victories, WAFA have also been poor away travellers, continuing from last season. They have played seven (7) league matches as guest this particular season, lost five (5), drawn two (2) and won none. In all the matches, they have scored four (4) and conceded ten (10) goals.

AshantiGold, after winning their match day 1 against Medeama, have failed to pick a single win afterwards. Out of the seven (7) matches played at home, the Miners have won one (1), lost two (2) and drawn four (4), scored four (4) and conceded five (5). In addition, the Black and Yellow boys have failed to score in their last two matches played at home.

Generally, WAFA have won one (1), lost two (2) and drawn two (2) of their last five matches while AshantiGold have drawn all their five (5) matches in the league.

The last six (6) matches on match day 15 for the Obuasi lads have resulted in three (3) draws, two (2) losses and one (1) win – Allowed in six (6) goals and scored five (5) goals.
