GPL: Chelsea pip Bechem in Bono derby

Berekum Chelsea narrowly defeated Bechem United in the first fixture of the 2015/16 GPL match day 13 round of games on Saturday.

The defeat at the Golden City Park is Bechem’s second successive loss in four days after their mid-week slump to Asante Kotoko.

After a fierce end-to-end battle in the first 30 minutes between the two sides, the visitors finally had the lion’s share of the exchanges and appeared closer to picking their first away victory in six attempts.

Sensing danger, Coach Solomon Odwo quickly replaced Ameyaw Collins, who had received a knock earlier on with Seth Appiah before the end of the first half.

The first half ended with no side opening the scoring as the home side’s performance was below par and nothing to write home about.

Odwo did his half time pep talk very well, which resulted in a quick response from the home side with Karim Abedi scoring the first goal of the afternoon two minutes into the second half

Minutes after, the goal scorer was replaced by Oti Richard.

The home side continued dominating play after their goal with series of attack from both left and right wing. Bechem responded in equal fashion with five minutes to full time.

The Blues equally defended with numbers in their box to hold on their slim lead to pick all the three points at stake to move to 5th on the league table pending other results.
