GPL: Bechem Utd vs Asante Kotoko PREVIEW

Bechem United hosts Kumasi Asante Kotoko on match day 12 of the Ghana Premier League at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park on Wednesday.

The Porcupines are 5th on the league table with 17 points after picking six points in their last two matches in the league whiles Bechem is 10th on the league log with 14 points.

Coach of Bechem, Manuel Zacarias seems to be hitting top gear since his appointment as he is yet to taste defeat in all competitions.

The Porcupines will be boosted by the addition of their inspirational captain Amos Frimpong and Edwin Tuffour, who received a red card in their clash against Hearts of Oak on week 10 all returning to the squad.

The Hunters have played the Red Devils six times in the league since their entry into the elite division in 2011.

Kotoko has the lion’s share of wins in their clashes. They have won five (5) and lost one (1) with no draw recorded between them. In their clashes, 23 goals have been produced with the visitors netting 15 of them whiles the host has scored the remaining eight (8).

Their last visit to the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park was on the 22nd of March last year of which they won by 1-3. The Porcupines lost their first three away matches conceding five (5) goals but have lifted up their game, winning their last two matches as visitors without conceding and scored in all of them as well.

Head of the management team for Kotoko, Opoku Nti, who was highly optimistic speaking to Kumasi-based Ashh FM in their match against the Hunter’s said:

“We are going there. For all I know, by the end of the first round, if we [Kotoko] aren’t first then we will be second.”

Bechem on the other hand has been resolute at home and a stubborn side to visiting teams. They have won four (4) and drawn one (1) in their last five home matches in the league. Impressively, they are among clubs who have conceded fewer goals at home, conceding only one goal (a 2-1 win against Wa All Stars).

Generally, Kotoko’s last five matches in the league have resulted in four (4) wins and one (1) loss whiles Bechem has tasted two (2) defeats, two (2) victories and one (1) loss.

The meeting of these two clubs will be a battle of records at stake to be broken. Will Manuel Zacrias taste his first defeat at the hands of the Porcupines or continue with their fine form at home?.
