“Kotoko captain Amos Frimpong must sit up”

Former Captain of Asante Kotoko, Joseph Hendricks has called on current skipper to be strong and assertive if he wants to lead the team out of the current problems facing the team.

The porcupine warriors have been in the news for all the wrong reasons in the last few weeks for their abysmal performance in the ongoing Ghana Premier League.

The search for a solution started Monday morning with the substantive coach, David Duncan asked to step aside for his assistant Michael Osei to take over.

But the former Skipper of the club believes the leadership of the playing body also need to stand up and be counted.

Speaking to Accra-based Kasapa FM, Joe Hendricks challenged the leadership of playing body to initiate moves that will get Kotoko working again.

“Being the captain of Kotoko automatically makes you a management member, so Amos Frimpong should be strong and lead his team. I am not sure he and the other senior players have done enough to get the team out of its current predicament.

“I know he met the life patron of the team, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and he told him there was no problem with the technical team, management team and the playing body. So what it means is that the players have a chunk of the job to do.

“I remember in my time I met Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and we spoke at length when the team got into a similar situation. I expect him to show that strength because he is leading the biggest club in the country,” he said.

The former stalwart defender also charged Stephen Oduro to assist Frimpong to steady the ship of Kotoko.

“I think Stephen Oduro was maintained for a reason so he should buck up and let his experience count. He has served under a lot of management and Coaches so this is where he is most needed as the most senior member of the squad.

Asante Kotoko lock horns with Liberty Professionals in a match day 7 fixture of the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
