Grant can’t be forced to stay on – Nyantakyi

Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi says “it’s a bit premature” to discuss the future of national team coach Avram Grant but maintains the body cannot force him to stay on should he decide to leave at the end of his contract.

Grant took over the Ghana job late 2014 in a 27-month deal which expires at the end of February 2017.

The ex-Chelsea manager’s recent comments about missing club football and the lure of returning to a club in summer 2017, a time by which his current Ghana contract would have long been over prompted Accra-based Starr FM’s Sports desk to seek the Ghana FA chief’s position on the matter.

Nyantakyi said: It’s his right. If he decides not to continue, nobody can force him to continue. You can’t force an employee to continue to work with you the same way you cannot force an employer to work with an employee [sic].

“But I think it’s a bit premature now to talk about that because the contract has not ended. We still have an African Cup of Nations tournament and we expect to win in Gabon so let’s focus on that. As to what will happen after the tournament, I think time will tell,” he added.

Grant is currently away on an official player monitoring duty in Europe and is expected to return to Ghana by May 5 where he will join his assistant Maxwell Konadu in leading the Local Black Stars team for an international friendly away to Japan six days later.
