GPL: Kotoko come back to silence Liberty

Asante Kotoko overcame an early scare to emerge 3-1 winners over high-flying Liberty Professionals at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors, after enduring a difficult week in which they made the headlines for all the wrong reasons, a put in a test of character as the visitors struck two minutes into the match day 7 of the 20115/16 Ghana Premier League encounter.

Playmaker Latif Ata Blessing unsettled the host with a sublime finish past goalkeeper Ernest Sowah, fulfilling an early promise of a goal in the encounter.

Kotoko reacted positively to the setback until their hardwork got rewarded from a corner kick in the 22nd minute. Centre-back Ahmed Adams’s goal-bound header took a ricochet off the body of Liberty’s Maxwell Mensah for the equalizer.

Ten minutes later, Dauda Mohammed gave Kotoko a 2-1 lead with a neat finish.

Liberty’s Daniel Kordie was given the marching orders in the 40th minute after he was adjudged to have elbowed Kojo Poku in a midfield tussle.

Kotoko captain Amos Frimpong put the game beyond the reach of the scientific soccer lads as he converted a penalty, making the scores 3-1 in the 88th minute.

Kotoko have leapfrogged from bottom of the table to 9th position while Liberty have dropped to 7th.
