The President of Gabon, Ali Bongo Ondimba will be among top dignitaries that will grace the inauguration of the newly built multi-purpose Cape Coast Stadium on Tuesday May 3, Ghonetv.com has reported.
Also, in attendance is the Chinese Football Association President, Cai Zhenhua, who will lead a 35-man contingent consisting of players and officials to Ghana.
The China Under-19 national team is scheduled to open the 15,000-seater stadium in an international friendly with their Ghanaian counterparts, the Black Satellites.
The Chinese team have confirmed their arrival in Ghana for the 1st of May and departure to be on May 4 while a total of 1,900 tickets have been allocated to the Asians.
Two games – one between High Schools Mfantsipim and Adisadel College as well as Ebusua Dwarfs vs. Venomous Vipers have also been lined up to precede the international friendly between Ghana and China which kicks off at 5pm.
The stadium, built by the Chinese government for Ghana at a cost of $35 million, has been equipped with some modern sports facilities like gym, a football pitch with natural turf, tartan tracks, handball court, tennis court, boxing gym, basketball court, hostel rooms and other sporting facilities. The stadium also has two electricity transformers and a standby industrial plant for power supply.
As part of it measures to ensure proper maintenance of the Cape Coast Stadium, the Chinese government will leave two technicians behind and would also do refurbishment works of the facility after five years in 2021.
