AshGold knocked out of FA Cup as Asokwa Deportivo reach R16

Lower tier side Asokwa Deportivo has kicked out 2014/15 Ghana Premier League Champions AshantiGold from the round of 32 of the 2016 MTN FA Cup.

The Kumasi-based Division One club got the first goal in the 38th minute of the game through Ernest Adu with Godfred Rockson getting an equalizer for the Miners with just three (3) minutes to end regulation time to push the game to penalties.

The shootouts which ended 4-2 saw Eric Adu, Appiah McCarthy, Yusif Musah and Patrick Owusu all the score sheet for Asokwa Deportivo but Coach Bashir Hayford’s side got only two of their penalty shoots on target through Joseph Ato Bisah and Francis Adjei.

Abeka Nkrumah and Godfred Rockson who got the equalizer for Ashgold however missed their kicks which would have seen their club progress to the next stage of the competition.

The results from the Baba Yara Sports Stadium sees Askowa Deportivo sealing the first ticket to the round of 16 of the 2016 MTN FA Cup.
