AshGold 0-1 Dreams FC: Hayford free-kick deepens Miners woes

Champions AshantiGold, Sunday, suffered yet another defeat in the ongoing 2015/16 Ghana Premier League, this time to new boys Dreams FC.

The Miners returned home after a 5-1 drubbing by Liberty Professionals with the hopes of getting their season back on track against Dreams at the Len Clay Stadium but were shattered courtesy a late first half strike from former Hearts midfielder Emmanuel Hayford.

Hayford struck a free-kick which went past goalkeeper Fatau Dauda two minutes from half time, a goal which went on to prove the difference after final whistle.

AshGold had taken control of the opening 10 minutes but subsequently lost possession as the coach C.K Akunnor side took control of affairs and dictated the pace of the game.

In the 63rd minute, AshantiGold had a golden opportunity to level the scores after being awarded a penalty but Shafiu Mumuni shot straight into the hands of goalkeeper Mozart Adjetey.

The host ended the game a man down as centre-back Daniel Addo was booked for a second yellow card offence in the 75th minute.

Dreams FC, with the victory over AshGold, move to third place, same points – 14, with Heart of Oak who place just above them with better goal advantage.

AshantiGold now drop to 12th position with 7 points in seven games played.

Goal scorer Emmanuel Hayford was adjudged man-of-the-match.
