MTN FA Cup: Kotoko escape shock R64 exit [Photos]

Division Two side AK Shion came close to securing a major MTN FA Cup upset after forcing their round of 64 game against Asante Kotoko into penalty shootouts Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors won 4-1 through penalty kicks after the match ended one all in regulation time at the Sunyani Coronation Park.

Coach David Duncan made seven changes to the squad the defeated Sekondi Hasaacas last week with Frank Sarfo Gyamfi returning from injury.

After series of pressure on the home side, the Porcupines broke the deadlock on the 38th minute through winger Frank Sarfo Gyamfi.

Shion scored with two minutes to half time but was ruled offside by the centre referee. Back from recess, Daniel Darkwa of AK Shion was red carded 20 minutes into the game. This was to the advantage of the away side and an opportunity to increase their tally.

Shion’s hardwork was rewarded late in the game as they pulled level in the final minutes of the game to bring the scores at 1-1 after the final whistle.

Kotoko however sailed through to the round of 32 with goalkeeper Ofori Antwi saving two kicks in the penalty shootouts. Obed Owusu, Evans Quao, Osei Agyeman and Samuel Kyere all had their kicks converted.

Michael Oppong was the only the player to convert his kick as they lost 4-1 to the Porcupine Warriors.
