Maidens qualify for 2016 Fifa U-17 Women’s World Cup

Ghana’s Black Maidens have sealed qualification to the 2016 Fifa U-17 Women’s World Cup after whipping Morocco 10-0 over two legs.

The side coached by Evans Adotey will be making a 5th straight appearance at the competition slated for September 30-October 21 in Jordan this year.

After securing a 4-0 away win in Rabat a fortnight ago, the Ghana Under-17 females banged in six more goal past the Moroccans in the reverse fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium Saturday.

Abdulai Mukarama was in no mood for a slow start as she beat her markers for pace before slotting past goalkeeper Ounatte Hasnae for the opener under 120 seconds.

The Maidens doubled the leadin the 40th minute after Nigerian referee Uloma Nneka Nwogu awarded a penalty for a handbal against Morocco’s Salbi Fadoua. The kick was converted by Asuako Philicity.

Four more goals were produced in the second half. Substitute Abdul Rahman scored in the 64th minute with captain Sandra Owusu Ansah making it 4-0 four minutes later.

Grace Acheampong scored the 5th in the 77th minute before Barikisu returned to cap an emphatic 6-0 victory with her brace 10 minutes from full time.

Ghana holds the record of the best African performance in a FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup. The Black Maidens remains the only side–to date–to reach the semi-finals of the Women’s U-17 World Cup. They lost to France in the semi-finals of the 2012 edition but went ahead to beat Germany 1-0 in the third-place match.

Ghana will be joined by Nigeria and Cameroon as Africa’s representatives at the 2016 Fifa Under–17 Women’s World Cup in Jordan.
