Duncan bemoans Kotoko’s lack of potency

Asante Kotoko’s head coach, David Duncan, has rued his side’s lack of cutting edge despite showing improvement in their outstanding league fixture against AshantiGold on Wednesday.

The match which ended goalless has left Asante Kotoko in a much poorer state on the league log, occupying the 13th position with only two points from a possible nine.

This hasn’t sunk in well for the Kotoko faithful, who reports gather after the match has it that, many are calling for the sack of Duncan.

The former Hearts of Oak trainer feels that they were hard done by as they lacked composure in front of goal, and were in haste to slot in simple chances that came their way.

“We were very erratic in front of goal. My players didn’t exhibit composure in front of goal,” Duncan said after the match.

“There weren’t too many clear cut opportunities in the game but on the whole we didn’t get the result we were looking for. The boys raised their game today from the Medeama game and I hope they can build on that,” he added.

When asked about why his team looks a pale shadow of themselves from their pre-season exploits he said:

“I think is a psyche issue. They don’t seem to have full season mode yet and we need to work on that aspect otherwise it could get worse. Games against Ashgold have never been easy so can’t say I’m disappointed with the result but feel we could have won.

“I think we also miss Jackson Owusu. He was the fulcrum of the midfield and he was a good partnership with Nyame but his injury means we had to rebuild sort of,” Duncan further explained.

Asante Kotoko has made one of the worst starts in the league, picking two points out of nine in three games as against nine points in three games and seven goals in the 2013/2014 season.
