AFCON 2017Q: Gyan fit and raring to go

Black Stars striker Asamoah Gyan has assured he will be returning to his scoring form for the nation after fully recovering from recent injuries.

The Ghana skipper has battled with fitness in recent months, nursing a couple of injuries. He however has disclosed he is fully fit and 100% ready to deliver as the Black Stars engage Mozambique in a double-header qualifier for the 2017 Africa Nations Cup beginning Thursday.

“Right now, I think I have started very slowly due to injuries and it’s normal in football though sometimes frustrating. I have started slowly, I think I have played about 3 games without scoring but sometimes it happens for a striker,” the captain told Joy Sports.

The former Sunderland tagert-man who currently plies his trade for Shanghai SIPG missed a couple of crucial games in the Asian Champions League and the Chinese League, but is fully fleshed for the Stars encounter with Os Mambas on Thursday in Accra and the reverse fixture in Maputo on Sunday.

The 30-year-old striker has assured the nation not to worry about goals and being fully fit will enhance him to bang in goals to ensure qualification for the tournament in Gabon next year.

“I am 100% fit right now. It’s a good thing for me and I am sure I will come back strongly. I am very happy I’m fit right now. This is what I always say, when I’m fit nobody should worry about goal scoring, so definitely I will come back,” Gyan highlighted.

Gyan is Ghana’s leading goal scorer with 48 goals in 96 appearances for the Black Stars.
