West African Football Academy captain, Martin Antwi says he is confident his outfit will secure victory over Asante Kotoko in the 2015/16 season opener on Saturday afternoon.
The clash, set for the Sogakope Park, officially commences the start of a well-delayed season challenged by unresolved tussles at the Ghana FA judiciary bodies.
Kotoko have enjoyed a fine pre-season run winning two trophies in a spate of two months. They defeated league champions Ashanti Gold to win the SWAG Cup before using a ‘fringe’ side to lift the maiden Ghalca-6 Tournament in Sekondi.
In their quest to reclaim the title from regional rivals AshantiGold, the Porcupine Warriors have augmented their squad with the acquisition of some players including Theophilus Nyame, Kwame Boateng, Stephen Nyarko, Bennett Ofori and others.
But Antwi whose side focuses on promoting players from the junior ranks is not overawed by the flamboyant pre-season form enjoyed by their guests. He tells Footy-GHANA.com that he and his team-mates are feverishly prepared for the duel.
‘’It is a must win for WAFA especially when we are playing at home in Day 1 fixtures. I think this season’s league will be very competitive, so if you are a team and you fail to win at home, it will create so many problems for you.
“I believe that we have to give our maximum best against Asante Kotoko at our home ground in order to beat them. We have had adequate preparations ahead of the game and that should fetch us a victory,’’ Antwi said.
Kickoff for the WAFA-Kotoko game is at 3:15pm.
