GPL: “Dwarfs were defensive” – Edubiase coach revels in first win

Head Coach of New Edubiase United, Anthony Commey opined Dwarfs were very defensive in their approach to the Match Day 2 fixture that saw his side victors after 90 minutes for the first time this season.

New Edubiase beat Ebusua Dwarfs by a goal to claim maximum 3 points at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi on Friday. Coach Anthony Commey said after the game, Dwarfs had a plan to be protective of their goal area but luckily, they (Edubiase) were able to score a goal that won them the match.

“Dwarfs came in with a game plan to defend but we at least managed to break through and have our goal. The general view, the game was a balanced game. Though we won, they also played well and could have utilized their chances, that’s my view,” he told reporters after the game.

Both teams had suffered 1-0 losses to opponents on Match Day 1 and were anticipating a better results but it was Edubiase who succeeded on the day courtesy a 59th minute Zuberu Fuseini close range effort.

Concerns have been raised over Edubiase’s strength following the sales of a number of vital players in the transfer window but the head coach of the Bekwai-based outfit has defended his new set of young players and believes they will come good after a few games after admitting the core of the team had been broken.

“It can be so but I think we lost players though and we are still on it. This is a new team altogether so we are just putting things together and bring them up,” coach Commey said.

On James Boadu being substituted for Matthew Boafo?

“It was tactical, it just went into stages we played four defenders so we could play defensively,” he responded

“As I told you, we have a young team and to start with big predictions is difficult. We want to perform better in the league,” cautious Anthony Commey told the media.

New Edubiase have now recorded their first 3 points of the new season after losing to Hearts of Oak in the opening league fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium.
