Asamoah Gyan suffers fresh groin injury

Ghana Captain, Asamoah Gyan has picked up a fresh injury in Shanghai SIPG’s 2-1 loss to Melbourne Victory in the Asian Champions’ League Group G match at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium

The 30-year-old striker lasted on the pitch for 59 minutes before he was taken off on a stretcher with a groin complaint.

AFC Champions League debutant Jai Ingham had given Melbourne the lead against the run of the play after 31 minutes only for Wu Lei to equalise for Sven Goran Eriksson’s Shanghai at the start of the second half.

And despite Shanghai creating the better of opportunities during the course of the game, Berisha converted from the penalty spot with less than 20 minute remaining as Kevin Muscat’s Melbourne secured the perfect start to life in Group G.

Gyan’s stay at Shanghai SIPG has been plagued by injuries, which started affecting him since the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
