Afum targets promotion with loan club Xamax

Ghana forward, Samuel Afum, has set sights on helping Swiss lower tier side Neuchâtel Xamax FCS to gain promotion to top-flight football by close of the current season.

The 25-year-old just sealed a four-month loan from BSC Young Boys where he has been playing for the past three years since arriving from Egypt’s SC Smouha.

Afum, this season, has had to endure a frustrating time on the bench this season under manager Adof Hutter who took over the club at the beginning of the on-going campaign.

“I’m here on loan for the next four months. I had a discussion with our coach [Young Boys] after which I decided to take up this challenge,” Afum exclusively told Ghonetv.com

Afum, whose contract with Young Boys after May 30 was recently linked with a move to Turkish side Boluspor.

“My concentration now is to get more playing time here with the ultimate aim of helping Xamax gain promotion to the topflight by summer. After that, we will look at my future,” he said.

The ex-Hearts of Oak goal monger was not eligible for his debut last Saturday against Chiasso due to Xamax’s inability to complete paperwork on his switch as at close of work Friday.

Afum, who watched his new side win 2-1, has begun training with Xamax and is now in line to play his first game when they visit FC Schaffhausen for a Challenge League fixture on Valentine day.

Xamax currently lie third in the race for the sole ticket for promotion to the Swiss Super League.
