The Ghana FA is keeping tabs on new Atletico Madrid sensation Thomas Teye Partey, Spain under-21 striker Inaki Williams and an unnamed German-based player for call-ups to the Black Stars team, vice president of the football body, George Afriyie has revealed.
Black Stars coach Avram Grant has never hidden his intentions of handing call-ups to players of Ghanaian origin abroad, and the trio could be the latest beneficiaries.
“The FA is monitoring a lot of players,” Afriyie told Atinka FM.
“The FA is [talking] to Partey, Inaki and another player from Germany – a lot of them.
“In monitoring, our lenses are on a lot of Ghanaians, but we have to leave that to the technical team.”
Currently with six La Liga goals for Athletic Bilbao this season, Williams has been in impressive form since bursting onto the stage in 2014-2015.
The 21-year-old grabbed global attention last November, netting five times in three matches within a span of eight days – two La Liga matches and a Europa League tie.
And, indeed, GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi and Grant have both previously confirmed interest in the young forward.
On the other hand, 22-year-old Odumase Krobo-born Partey has become an object of public interest following his match-winning strike that sent Atletico to the top of La Liga table early this month, three days after providing an assist for his side’s first goal in a 2-0 win over Rayo Vallecano.
Investigations have confirmed that the German-based player in question is 21-year-old Hamburg youngster Gideon Jung.
Born to Ghanaian parents in Germany, the versatile midfielder, who can equally play in central defence, received a call-up from Germany under-21 team last September following his fine start to the season, but turned down the opportunity over injury concerns.
