Ajax Cape Town desperate to register Lawrence Lartey for CAF competition

Ajax Cape Town are hoping to sort out all the papers for new signing Lawrence Lartey as soon as possible to allow the defender to be available in next year’s CAF Confederation Cup.

The Ghanaian defender joined the Urban Warriors last month, and has been training with the squad yet is still ineligible to play as he awaits his work permit.

“We are still waiting [for his permit],” Ajax coach Roger De Sa told reporters. “Any day it could happen. It’s just one of those things, but he knows that, he’s got to just keep ticking and be ready: as soon as it comes through, he’ll be available to play.”

The Cape side have been drawn against Angolan side GD Sagrada Esperança in their preliminary round CAF Confederation Cup match-up, and are desperate to have their new recruit registered by next month’s deadline to add strength to their backline on their continental travels next year.

“I’m hoping we’ll get the permit before the 15th of January, because that’s the cut-off date for Africa,” De Sa continued. “So we are trying to speed things up so we can register him as a PSL player before the 15th of January to make him eligible to play in the CAF competition.

“We are going to need another defender for sure, so we are trying to get him registered and ready for that.”

Ajax have one more domestic assignment left for 2015: a PSL encounter away at Mpumalanga Black Aces on Saturday.
