How has Ghana boss Avram Grant fared since coming into power almost a year ago? Not badly.
At least, according to his own assessment. November 27 marks the anniversary, but the former Chelsea boss reckons he’s had a good rap sheet.
Grant led the Black Stars to the final of this year’s Nations Cup where they lost to Cote d’Ivoire in a penalty shootout. The Black Stars are also topping their 2017 Nations Cup qualifying group and have qualified for the group stage of the World Cup qualifiers after defeating minnows Comoros in the second round.
“We have big ambitions for this team. We did well for in the African Cup. We did well and we want to continue. It’s a process. Next month I will finish one year in my job and I think for the first year it was a good job,” Grant noted to Pulse Ghana.
The Israeli tactician noted, however, there was still a lot of work to be done.
“It’s good [first year in charge of Black Stars] but there’s a long way ahead of us. Our target now is to qualify to the World Cup and to qualify to the African Cup. We know that we can make good things.”
Grant is fresh from winning his first Ghana game at the Kumasi stadium, which is widely seen as the Stars’ fortress, but he gave his opponent credit.
“All credit to Comoros. They played very well, they fought very well, they defended very cleverly, they moved the ball forward. They didn’t get any chances but it was not easy to play against them.”
Ghana won the second leg Fifa World Cup qualifier 2-0 in Kumasi after a 0-0 draw in Comoros.
